Mothers Day Miracle
Well we had a miracle (at least to us anyway) today. I decided to take out the two mangers because the horses are always throwing the hay on the ground and then eating it. Behind the big manger are horizontal boards to keep the horse from kicking the steel barn siding. They are about five feet high with one inch spaces between the boards. As I start to take the manger apart I see movement behind the boards. I stood up on the manger and looked behind the boards and see a chicken. I don't know how she got back there, but it looked like Alice and I reached down and pulled her out. I put her on the ground and called her a dumb chicken and thought no more about it. Tonight when I went down to close the coop and the barn and count chickens I counted nine. There hasn't been nine since Ethel disappeared. So I counted again and again and again. Ethel was back. So it had to be her behind the boards, no other explanation fits. Three weeks and three days. She must have been eating the hay seeds that fall behind there when I feed the horses, but she hasn't had any water. She seems fine, but I'll have to watch her to make sure. Gramma cried. We are happy to have her back. Unbelievable.
