November and Another Birthday

Well, on Thanksgiving we went to Ted and Sue's and while there we celebrated birthdays. There is a lot of November birthdays. For some unknown reason I had it in my head that Mary's birthday was today. WRONG! It was Friday. Probably early onset Al's Hammer. Why Al wants everyone to have his hammer, I don't know. I definetly prefer my own hammer and I have tried many different kinds over the years. Anyway, sorry little girl, it won't happen again. Probably. I hope.
Here I am holding her at 2 weeks old. Wow.
Here she is 9 years later. WOW! It goes so fast. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY! We love you.
For those of you who didn't really believe me when I said one of our chickens ate a mouse, here you go. Sorry if it's blurry. You try to take a picture of a running chicken with a mouse in it's mouth and let me know how it comes out.

These two pics are for my Grandsons in Louisana. Boys, this is what a buzz cut looks like. Did it myself this morning. Hasta luego.

Happy Birthday Jess and Russell

Happy Birthday Kids!
Jess has always had issues with foxes.
What a cutie.
She has always loved horses.
She has always liked to fish.

She still likes to fish and sometimes she even catches something. I'm not sure she could feed herself this way however. Happy Birthday Honey.

Russell T. Berg. AKA The Running Man.
 They sure grow fast.
This year he came up hunting with Dad one day. I think he liked it. Happy birthday Russ.

Rocky

Well, I guess four days wasn't forever. I have Gramma's hand-me-down computer, which is a big step up from what I had. Thanks Gramma. Maybe now she won't have to fix it all the time. If she does, then the problem is me.
I thought I would get some pics of Rocky before it gets real cold and his comb freezes and falls off.
He's a handsome boy and the largest rooster we've ever had. Still not aggressive and still eats out of my hand. Who's that clown in the background?
He has several bright green, almost iridescent feathers by his tail. Weird, but cool.
Oh, here's that clown cat. Sparkle II.
A male Downy woodpecker.
Cute little guys. Three weeks 'til deer season. Gramma says I'm in a high speed wobble. I don't know about that, but on these cold mornings, now that you can see in the woods, sure makes me want to go sit in the deer stand. I guess I can wait. Anyhoo that's all from the farm. Seeeee Ya!

Last Post ..........Forever?

Well not really forever, I don't think, but maybe for awhile. Although it's already been awhile. Just been having computer problems again. The last time Gramma had to fix it we lost two years of pictures. So tonight I'm putting all the pics on a disc. Gramma's going to buy an Apple lap top and I'm getting her other one. Then we're putting this one on a stump and blasting it with the varmint rifle. I can't wait. Maybe we should have a computer shooting party. I bet G.G.G.Gramma would like it too. Anyway here's some pics.
Snowed for the first time on Saturday. Didn't last too long, but it was there. We heard it was really cold in Louisiana too. Anyone got some winter coats for those people?
Went to the lake after Gramma got home from Switzerland and took out the dock and took some pics of the colors.

Here's a couple of pics from the golf course in Isle.
I wish I had brought my camera the week before, because the trees were even prettier then and the day was warm and sunny. Well that's it for now, I'll be back when I am. Of course it's possible no one will miss it anyway. See ya around and be nice to your dogs.

Fawns

Hey, twice in one day. What's up with that? I was talking to my sister and walked back to the bedroom and saw the twins out back. Well they walked right up to the house and the buck actually stepped up on the patio.
I went out to the garage an quietly pushed up the window and stuck the camera outside.
He had stepped off the patio by then, but was still in the corner eating stuff.

here's the doe outside our bedroom window.
Here's the buck in the same spot. Can you see his little nubbins? They hung around out there for over an hour. Cool.
This has been the nightly scene since Gramma went overseas. I need a bigger chair. Aloha.

Farm stuff

Hey. We've had frost here the last three mornings, but it got up to 70 yesterday. Gramma comes home from Switzerland tomorrow, so we are happy. :) Fall is one of my favorite times, with cool mornings and warm afternoons. It also brings more wildlife out in search of food to put on fat for winter. The last 5 days we have been visited by a turkey family. Mama and 5 young ones have been coming into the backyard.

The ever watchful eye of Mama turkey.
Sometimes they move into the hayfield on the west side. I'm not sure what they saw, but the kids headed for the woods and Mama started to head towards the house with her neck stretched out, head up high and her eyes watching something. She got about ten feet from the house when she saw me in the window and headed back to her brood. Pretty funny and I have no idea what she was looking at.
Here is "Sparkle The Mighty Hunter".
This is what she was stalking. Talk about grandious dreams. Well, as you can surmise she didn't stand a chance, but it was fun for me and Heide to watch her try. We sold a quarter of beef to my friend Mike and he called last night to let me know that he bbq'd two steaks and they were tasty and tender. Yay! I figured they would be, but it's good to hear. Next year we'll have them cut the steaks thicker. Any way that's all for now. Thanks for watching and be sure to patronize your local retailers.

Meat, fawns and cranes

Picked up the meat today.
Here's half. Filled Jess' small freezer right up to the top.
Here's the other half. With our chickens and other stuff in there it's packed and the door is heavy. The hanging weight was 560 lbs. so he weighed almost 1,000 lbs. live. That's a couple hundred pounds more than the last one. I had a steak from it tonight and I have two words for it. YUM O.
Here's one of the twin fawns we've been watching all summer. As you can see they've lost their spots. One is a doe and one is a buck.
They were about thirty feet from the deck here. Heidi looks out the patio door and whines while her tail quivers at Mach 1.
We've had a lot of cranes again this year. They're really big and really noisy. It's fun to watch them in the fields and they don't seem to be too afraid of people which is too bad because they started a hunting season on them last year. Who knows, maybe they taste like chicken. Sayounara.
