I built a couple of raised bed garden boxes for Gramma and Saturday we went to the Green Barn and got seeds and stuff. Will probably build a couple more next year too. Less bending while weeding. Maybe we'll actually weed.
Here's a pic I couldn't find when someone turned forty earlier this year. I thought it was important that this photo be released. Aren't you glad I'm not on Facebook?
Do you know these two pals?
How about this guy? Nice hat huh? Bye.

Random Stuff
Been warm for two days and the cows are lazy.
Siesta time behind the shed. They like to eat their bales from the inside out.
Here's the meat birds in their new digs. They seem to have adjusted well.
Two buddies enjoying the sunshine and the fire.
What the? That's what I said this morning on my way to Cambridge. We go by this place quite often, but there was never a dragon before. Not sure what the deal is but it is really quite pretty, kind of a coppery bronze color. What next? Adieu.

Motorcycle and Peeps
Found this picture the other day. It's in bad shape and the only one I have. This is me at 16 yrs old. This is the first vehicle I ever owned. A 1947 Harley-Davidson. Bought it myself the spring I got my drivers license.
I paid $250.00 for it. I wish I had it now. Probably worth a little bit more now. Didn't get a car for two more years. I loved that bike, but my future mother-in law wasn't that crazy about it. It had a suicide clutch and a shift lever on the tank. The tank was gas on one side and oil on the other. Once you hit 70 mph oil would start to come out the cap and run down the tank. Maybe I wasn't supposed to drive that fast. Aahh the "Good Old Days".Peeps are now a month old and the layers mostly have their color.
A bit difference in size. Can you tell how big the breasts are on the meat bird? Wow! Yum yum. Moving them to the barn on Monday cause it got cold here. Later.

Projects
Well, I've been working on some stuff.
We bought a Gazebo at Fleet Farm. $100 bucks off and we wanted some shade so we could use the deck more. Lots of pieces.Made buy some communists overseas, so you can imagine how easy it was to put together.
I can hear the guy writing the instruction manual laughing and saying how he's putting it to America once again.
Almost there. I honestly don't know how the average homeowner with no mechanical skills and few tools can do it. If everything fit correctly you could do it with two 10mm wrenches. I had to use bar clamps, c-clamps and a marlin spike. Not everybody has a marlin spike.
Here it is with the top on. The instructions for the top say.......Install the top.
We also bought two sun shade curtains, one for the South side and one for the West. I bolted it to the deck, so I don't think it's going anywhere unless we get a tornado and then all bets are off and you can pick up your original wager at the window.
Here's another project. We got a bale spear for the bobcat that attaches to the bucket. Less than $200.00. The cheapest quick-tach one I can find around here is almost a grand. So we bought a quick-tach plate for less than $200.00 and with my torch, four inch grinder and welder we now have a bale spear attached right to the machine. With it bolted to the bucket, when I put out the big bales for the cows the rear wheels kept coming off the ground and it was not a good feeling tipping like that, especially when taking a bale from on top of the stack. Now it doesn't tip.
And lastly I cleaned out the small part of the coop and divided it, so the meat birds can go in there. Gonna move them this week so we can put the other chicks in a bigger pen. 5 more weeks and I'll start to butcher. Anyone who wants to volunteer to help, you'll be more than welcome. Ta ta.

Easter Sunday
I hope everyone had a good Easter. We did. Ted, Sue, Mary and Russell came for dinner. Unfortunately Jess couldn't make it. Bummer. Gramma made a great dinner as usual, with game hens and salmon, roasted potatoes, asparagus, brussel sprouts per request of our grandson. Really? Yeah. So I've decided to call them "Russell Sprouts" from now on. She also made a really good fruit desert on angel food cake with whip cream. Yummo! And some kind of apricot cookies that should probably be illegal cause they're so good. We had a really good visit and even played a game of sorry which I didn't win. :-( I didn't take any pictures except this one.
This is a picture of the chocolate bunnies which we forgot to give to the kids when they were here. I guess we were too busy talking. We'll have to make it up to them. Sorry kids. :-( We're old. Later.

Chicken stuff
Oh boy! More chicken stuff. Go ahead and roll your eyes, this is exciting stuff to us.
Moved the layer chicks out to the garage on Wednesday. They had started to try and fly in the bins and so needed more room. They were jumping and flapping their little wings all over. It was funny, cause they would stare up at the mesh over the bins and then launch themselves straight up and hit the mesh or hit the light, flapping like mad. So I moved them.I keep finding them sitting on the waterer or on top of the feeders.
I put two perches in there for them, but I think I'll have to raise them higher. They seem happy in there, so we are happy. Ted and Sue and the kids and Jess are coming for Easter dinner on Sunday. It will be nice to see everyone again. Happy Easter! Hej da.

Chick stuff
We had to move the meat birds out to the garage yesterday.
Here's their new home. It's an old collapsible dog pen that I wrapped in cardboard and put in some heat lamps. They only get food for twelve hours because they will eat too much and start to have leg and heart problems.
This is why we moved them. One week ago these two chicks were the same size. I was going to use the smallest Barred Rock chick and the biggest meat bird chick, but I didn't need to, because they were all pretty much the same size in each kind. Seven weeks and in the freezer.
Isn't this a lovely bucolic scene? Yes it is. Ta.
